Horace Story Draft 1
SNORE!! Boom! Bang! Beep! Beep! Horace’s alarm was going off. Fart! Burp! It started making obnoxious noises. “Alright! Alright!” Horace cried desperately and stopped the alarm. He got dressed and fumbled for his glasses. Suddenly, he touched something scaly. “Aah!” He jerked his hand back and resumed the search for his glasses. He found them and put them on. He could not believe his eyes. A dragon was sitting on the desk. A silver-azure dragon on his desk! It was chewing on a piece of beef jerky. It looked so-o-o adorable, sitting on a table and chewing messily. He went downstairs and ate his breakfast at top speed. Horace flossed and reached for his tooth brush, missed, and said, “Darn it!” Suddenly, the smell of pancakes wafted into his nose, along with maple syrup, ice cream and fresh strawberries. He bounded down the hall way to the kitchen.
Looking one way and the other, he smuggled the dragon to school. A shadow overlapped his shadow. Horace jumped back, terrified. It was the school bully. Horace’s blue eyes widened with fear. A puff of blue-gray smoke escaped the box with the dragon in it. Bully was snatching the dragon out of his hands. He put it on above his head. Horace jumped and missed it by a hairs width. (He was rather tall). The school bully opened the box. He grabbed a cage from his pocket and put the dragon inside. The bully put the dragon down and said, “Horace Bartholomew Gates, you’re busted”. As he advanced on him, Horace turned and ran.
He ran to his hiding place and sat down. “I wonder where the dragon is.” Then, a miracle struck. The dragon was on a tree! He loped up and up and slid down. He tried again and again but the bell rang and he went into class. After a few hours of burping in class, the bell rang for lunch. He headed to the canteen. As he walked to the canteen, hot tears streamed down his cheeks. He felt stupid and angry. To make matters worse, the menu was steamed vegetables. He hated them. Just as the first spoonful was lifted, a rumbling roar shook the ground. His dragon! The dragon flew out of range. It was free now. When he got home, on his doorstep was an egg. There was a note attached to it. It read:
Dear Horace,
This is a dragon egg.
Please take care of it.
It is very special.
The dragon.
The note was scribbled.
As he went inside, he cradled the egg in his arms. His dragon was gone, but he could hatch another with this egg.
